Depression

A woman can be depressed during menopause because she is suffering from the sense of losing the ability of conceiving children and different changes in body. What is depression, the answer is; depression is a disease, which is common in menopausal women, man and even in teenage boys and girls. Depression can be caused by menopause, hormonal changes and mental disorder, anxiety and some biological factors. But the main cause of the depression is the change in the hormone known as serotonine that is produced in the brain. This hormone use to regulate the changes in mood. In case the level of serotonin hormone decreases a great fluctuation in mood occurs and depression can be the result.

The symptoms of depression can be seen in a person who feels sad, desperate, miserable, downhearted and gloomy. The effects of the depression can be terrible in some patients. Depression can lead a person to loneliness and even suicide. So the patient suffering from the depression should realize that it is not a minor problem. At the beginning it can be easily controlled.

In women during menopause about 8 to 15 % women suffer from the depression. Causes of the depression are still debatable but theories about menopausal depression show that it is because of mood disorder in women. Stress in the early stages of menopause can be change into depression.

Another reason of depression in women during menopause is the change in hormone level. A decreased level of estrogen, progesterone and androgen hormones can cause changes in mood these changes lead to depression. These hormones are used to control the moods and brain activities. Chances of depression increase during menopause because of the certain changes in the level of hormones during menopause. Surgical menopause can also cause depression because the level of estrogen decreases dramatically. A woman can easily be depressed if she has young children; she smokes or takes extra stress.

If a woman is suffering from depression she should immediately go to the hospital for depression treatment. Following depression treatment can be used to overcome this problem:

Estrogen therapy is the best solution for depression caused by menopause in women. Decreased estrogen level causes the changes in mood that leads to depression. Intake of estrogen hormone as oral dose can be helpful to reduce depression.

Antidepressant can be useful to overcome depression. There are many antidepressant medicines available in market like paxil and Zoloft, which can make positive effects on patient.

Psychotherapy with medicine can be the best cure for depression. A psychologist can guide you in many ways that how you can change the negative thought into positive.

There are three main types of depression

Major Depression:

It is also known as unipolar depression. In this type of depression a person remains in the phase of depression for months or even longer. It is also called as clinical depression.

Dysthemia Depression:

The symptoms of the dysthemia depression are similar to the major depression but it can lasts for about 2 years. This depression often changes into major depression.

Manic Depression:

This depression is not common as other two are common. It is known as bipolar depression. It can be caused by the excitement of love, desire, craze or ecstasy etc.

A postpartum depression may have an effect on the expected to become mothers. Postpartum depression can last for few days or weeks. In postpartum depression a woman feel insomnia, sadness, anxiety, anger, lack of concentration and loss of sexual desire.

Teenage depression is also harmful for teenagers as depression is harmful in adults. It can happen because of some stress on child by parents or teachers. Teen depression can affect their social activities and failure in exams.

Some people try to control the depression by alcohol or some drugs. They use only temporary relief. A doctor or psychologist can make various depression tests or can suggest depression medication.
